Which Renault has the best fuel consumption?

Renault is set to have its biggest year in terms of new model launches for quite some time now in 2023, but within this expanding range, which model is the lightest on fuel?

French brand Renault has rebuilt its reputation within the local market and is now known for selling affordable and efficient products at the attainable end of the market, begging the question, which model within its local range model is the lightest on fuel? Kwid

The Kwid is Renault's entry-level product within the local market, coming in at under R200 000 new, and providing basic mobility with an alluring number of standard features. The lightweight Kwid tips the scales at just over 700kg and is powered by a tiny 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 50kW and 91Nm that is sent through the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. This allows the product to consume fuel at a. rate of just 4.9 L/100km!

Duster

The Duster is our favourite Renault here at AutoTrader, and since it offers space, efficiency, and capability at a reasonable price tag, it is easy to see why. The base model Duster is powered by a 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine that is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox that sends 66kW and 210 Nm through the front wheels. This combined with a 1 217kg kerb weight allows it to sip fuel at a rate of 5.1 L/100km.

Verdict

Looking at the figures, Renault's cheapest model, the Kwid, is also the lightest on fuel, which is easy to understand thanks to its light weight and small capacity engine. That being said, the Duster, which is a far more substantial product, is nearly as frugal, and certainly a worthy contender within its segment.
