The current version of the Fiat Fiorino van was launched here in April 2018 and it certainly has a funky, modern appearance. It is also a no-nonsense load carrier with two doors for the occupants, and two side-hinged doors at the rear for easy loading. Optional is a fifth door fitted to the passenger side of the vehicle for additional loading versatility. The rated payload is 610 kg, and the loading volume is between 2 500 and 2 800 litres.
The range
The Fiorino comes with two engine choices and two trim choices. But having said that, perhaps the term “trim” is a bit misleading. The 1.4 petrol variant is available with or without air conditioning, and the 1.3 Multijet diesel derivative is available with or without air conditioning. That’s it, as far as trim variances are concerned. If you trawl down the specification list you will notice that, item for item, air-con and non-air-con examples are otherwise identical.

Equipment levels
Equipment levels are fairly basic. Upholstery is in cloth, and electric windows (in front only, obviously) are listed as options on all four models. Rear parking sensors are also on the options list, as is a multifunction steering wheel with remote controls, but ABS and dual (driver and passenger) airbags are standard on all Fiorinos.
Engine power and performance
The 1.4-litre petrol engine is rated at 57 kW and 115 Nm of torque, giving a top speed of 157 km/h, and a claimed average fuel consumption of 6.9 litres/100 km. The 1.3-litre Multijet turbodiesel is rated at 59 kW and 200 Nm of torque, which will make quite a difference when hauling loads around town. Top speed for the diesel model is slightly higher at 162 km/h, and its claimed average fuel consumption is considerably lower, at 4.4 litres/100 km.

Which Fiat Fiorino depreciates the quickest?
According to a Fiat salesman we spoke to, the petrol 1.4 versions are slightly more popular than the diesels when it comes to re-sale. He said that he recommends the more expensive diesel models for customers who will be using the vehicle mainly around town, where the extra torque of the diesel model is a major factor.
As for the models that come without air conditioning, these are understandably less popular than the so-called “aircon” models. So the model that will depreciate quickest, without taking into consideration condition of the vehicle, will be the non-aircon 1.3 MultiJet. When high mileages come into play, people are often a little wary if opting for a diesel, as items like injectors and pumps are expensive replacement items. However, it should be pointed out that the MultiJet 1.3 diesel has an excellent reliability record in this respect.
