There are usually a number of colour options available for all new vehicles, however, when we look at research from the famed Haynes, known for their in-depth service and repair manuals, we see that as of just a few years ago, white was the most popular car colour in the world, followed by black, silver, grey and red. Interestingly, on almost all continents, black and white accounted for roughly half of the vehicle colours, however, when looking at colours that look the cleanest for the longest, white and black are not the best options, so which hues are?
Colours to avoid
Looking at what makes a colour appear cleaner for longer, it all comes down to its ability to mask dirt and grime, and when it comes to dust, mud, water and road grime, with black, dark blue and dark reds being among the worst colours, often showing even the slightest signs of contamination.
Cleaner for longer
When it comes to colours that mask dirt, grime and scratches, silver and grey are difficult to beat, while white does a good job of marking light dust. Those after less popular colours will be happy to hear that various shades of green, orange and yellow also do a good job of looking cleaner for longer.
