When Audi South Africa launched the A6 and A7 in April 2015, the A7 Sportback range was offered with a choice of five powerful and highly efficient engines: two petrol and two diesel units.
Diesel Engines
The entry engine in the 2015 range started with the 3.0 TDI quattro S tronic which put out maximum power of 200 kW and peak torque of 580 Nm. It had a claimed fuel consumption of 5.2 litres per 100 km on a combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 136 grams per km.
The 3.0 TDI bi-turbo engine put out maximum power of 235 kW and peak torque of 650 Nm. The engine was paired to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission opposed to the other engine configurations in the range which were all paired to a seven-speed S tronic transmission. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes place in 5.2 seconds, claimed fuel consumption sits at 6.1 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions were rated at 162 grams per km.

Petrol Engines
The first of the petrol engines in the 2015 range is the 4.0T FSI found in the S7 Sportback. It put out maximum power of 331 kW and peak torque of 550 Nm, and like its S6 sibling, uses innovative COD (cylinder on demand) technology to save fuel. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
The second petrol engine is found in the brutal Audi RS7 Sportback. The 4.0 TFSI in the revised Audi RS7 Sportback remains to put out maximum power of 412 kW and a constant 700 Nm of torque at engine speeds between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes place in 3.9 seconds. With the optional dynamic package, the RS 7 manages a top speed of 305 km/h. Claimed fuel consumption in the V8 bi‑turbo is rated at 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions are 221 grams per kilometre. A key factor in this efficiency is the cylinder on-demand system.
The chassis, too, combines sporty precision with high comfort. The power steering system features an electromechanical drive for high efficiency. The Audi drive select dynamic handling system is standard, while options include dynamic steering, two sport suspension versions and adaptive air suspension.
