What's my used Jaguar F-Pace worth?

If you're looking to sell your Jaguar F-Pace, are you guaranteed of getting a decent price for it?

The Jaguar F-Pace was the British luxury brand's first foray into SUV-Ville. With sensual styling that echoes the elegant lines of the sumptuous F-Type, people can't get enough of this sporty SUV; so much so that the F-Pace's resale value far surpasses that of the F-Type, which is understandable, as you can't exactly carpool in a coupé...

Currently there are 15 F-Pace models in the local line-up, with new prices starting from R828 804 for the 20d AWD Pure to R 1 517 828 for the F-Pace SVR. Engines range from four-cylinder, 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre turbodiesels to 2.0-litre turbocharged and 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrols, while the flagship SVR model has a monster of a 5.0-litre V8 with 405kW and 680 Nm!

The F-Pace can be had in the following trims: Pure, Prestige, R-Sport and Portfolio. S and SVR-derivatives are at the top of the range.

Just like the Range Rover Evoque, the Jaguar F-pace hangs on to its value nicely, and the most popular models manage to retain approximately 70-80 percent of their purchase price one year later, depending on mileage, engine size/type, general condition, service history and so forth.

We spoke to a pre-owned vehicle salesperson at Jaguar in Cape Town, and he says that the  F-Pace 25d AWD R-Sport (R1056 075 new) is the most sought-after in the line-up. With 177kW and 500 Nm torque, it combines sufficient shunt with good diesel economy (the manufacturer's average figure is 5.8 litres per 100km). Therefore, this is the model that will retain its value the best, and will be the best investment if you hope to get some cash back.

Some of the R-Sport's key features include:

  • 19" Style 5038, 5 split-spoke, Gloss Grey with contrast Diamond Turned finish
  • ‘R-Sport’ Body kit including R-Sport front and rear bumpers, Body-coloured door claddings with Satin Black finishers
  • Metal tread plates with R-Sport branding
  • Bi-function Xenon headlights with LED 'J' blade Daytime Running Lights
  • Perforated Grained Leather Seats
  • Interior lighting

A point to remember, however, is that 'speccing' a new car with all kinds of optional extras doesn't mean you're going to get your money back when you sell or trade in your car.  Even if you spend megabucks on all kinds of fancy tech, you should bear in mind that you may have to write this off when the time comes to sell. However, it may still be a good selling point, and there are always exceptions (see no. 1).

Take a look at what a used Jaguar F-Pace is selling for on the AutoTrader sales section. Do bear in mind that the dealerships have already added their mark-up to the price in order to make a profit, so you can subtract approximately 30 percent of the price to get a more realistic idea of what your car is worth. Also remember that selling privately will mean more admin for you, but ultimately a better price in your pocket.

Here are some examples of retail prices (used cars) for the most popular F-PACE models on site:

1. A 2018 Jaguar F-Pace 30d AWD R-Sport with 6000km retails for R1 250 000. Currently, a new one, in this trim, will cost you R 1087 134  (as is, without all of the added extras).

2. Then there's a 2019 Jaguar F-Pace 25d AWD R-Sport available with 3000 km available for R929 900. New, this car would cost you R 1 056 075.

3. Fancy a model with slightly higher mileage? There's a 2018 F-Pace 25d R-Sport with 23 789 km for R789 900. (New price also R 1 056 075.)
