What is covered under the manufacturer's warranty for the VW T-Cross?

Know what you're getting yourself into when you purchase VW's volume-selling compact SUV, the terrific T-Cross.

How long is the T-Cross warranty and service plan for?

When you buy a T-Cross, you are assured of the following: A 3-year / 120 000 km warranty,  3-year / 45 000 km service plan, and 12-year anti-corrosion warranty.

The standard 3-year warranty protects against the failure of most electrical and mechanical components due to manufacturing defects. Your T-Cross will need to be serviced every 15 000 km.

Those of us who reside at the coast know that rust is a real issue. The "internal body sections and panels of your VW are covered against rusting through from the inside, for a period of twelve years", Volkswagen says. Again, if your T-Cross starts to corrode because of your driving through rivers on a regular basis, this warranty may not hold, due to negligence on your part.

The paintwork warranty

Did you know that the paintwork on your T-Cross is also covered against manufacturing defects for three years? Yet again, this warranty is only valid if your vehicle is cared for "on compliance with the operating instructions found in your vehicle handbook." In other words, if you're a street racer or you engage in other forms of automotive hooliganism on a regular basis, and something gives up the (mechanical) ghost, don't come crying to Volkswagen!

All warranties are only valid if you service your vehicle "in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications", ie. at a legitimate VW dealership. Remember that your warranty can easily be a thing of the past if you don't fit original parts. These also carry a 1-year warranty.

No roadside assist?

If you want roadside assistance as well, this is only available when you purchase an optional EasyDrive service or maintenance plan from Volkswagen which can be extended up to 10 years / 400 000 km. Contact your local VW dealer for pricing.
