What is covered by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s warranty?
Alfa’s quality is up there with the best of the European manufacturers, but it goes the extra distance with a solid warranty and maintenance plan.
If the word “Sports” in “Sports Utility Vehicle” or “SUV” is important to you, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio has to be very close to the top of your list. You’ll have to spend far more than R850 000 to get a new SUV that presents a sportier, more rewarding drive than the Stelvio 2.0T Super Q4.
Alfa Romeo isn’t as synonymous with durability and support in every one-horse town in the way Toyota is. Alfa Romeo took steps to address this with a robust after-sales package.
The warranty
The Stelvio is guaranteed against defects and faulty workmanship for 3 years or 100 000 km (from date of sale) – whichever occurs first. This means a faulty part or parts will be replaced at no cost to the owner, for the part(s) or the labour. Naturally there are exclusions, so don’t expect Alfa Romeo to replace the engine if your spend every weekend at the local drag strip.
Also note that it’s wise to keep your Alfa Romeo safe from the elements. Don’t drive it on the beach – salt causes rust and shoreline wildlife can be harmed. Don’t attempt water crossings in Botswana (or anywhere else) and expect the manufacturer to pay for water damage. They will most likely be within their rights to act in goodwill or not.
Cover against body corrosion is limited to body panel perforation (edge corrosion excluded) for 5 years unlimited mileage from the date of sale.
A generous maintenance plan
Apart from the warranty above, the Stelvio is also covered by a valuable 6 year / 100 000 km maintenance plan. These plans are more comprehensive than service plans and will pay for items like brake pads, where a service plan will only pay for the usual service items, like spark plugs, filters and lubricants. Extend this maintenance plan if you want to drive your Stelvio beyond 100 000 km.
The Stelvio requires servicing every 15 000 km or annually, and the car will remind you. Never skip a service, as it will void your warranty and possibly the maintenance plan too.
Alfa Romeo South Africa guarantees its workmanship if a repair has to be made. The company also provides emergency roadside assistance and there’s a mobility program to keep you moving while waiting for repairs performed under warranty.
