Used Subaru Legacy test drive: make sure to check these features out.
The Subaru Legacy is the firm's larger sedan offering and the last time South Africa received a new Legacy was during 2018 when the Japanese automaker introduced an updated variant. We take a closer look at this model and list some of the most notable features to check out during a test drive.
Whether you pronounce it Subaru or Su-baaru, one thing is for certain, everyone knows exactly which vehicles you are talking about. The Impreza certainly was the more popular model for the brand, mostly due to its success in the World Rally Championship. However, you shouldn't dismiss the Legacy just yet, as it also comes fitted with the famous boxer motor except it has two more cylinders than the Impreza.

Offering 191 kW and 350 Nm of torque, the 3.6-litre, 6-cylinder, Boxer motor is coupled to a Lineartronic CVT transmission. The combination will propel the vehicle to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and on to 209 km/h. The engine will also return an average fuel consumption figure of 9.9 L / 100 km.
1. Infotainment
In the 2018 model, Subaru has added a host of standard equipment and one of those items is the upgraded infotainment system. Taking shape as a 7.0-inch touchscreen system, the installed software is not only more intuitive and faster but supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and comes with TomTom-based SATNAV functionality as standard.
The system is bolstered by a new voice-control input which not only allows occupants to access Apple's Siri or Android's Google functions but also adjust the climate control and audio settings.
2. Safety
The Subaru Legacy comes fitted with ABS brakes and a Brake Assist System. Also incorporated is an Electronic Stability Control system to keep all four wheels on the road and traction control to mitigate wheel spin when you are not expecting it. The Legacy is also packed with airbags with a total of seven found around the cabin including side-impact airbags. The vehicle has also been reinforced for side impacts. ISOFIX child-seat anchors also feature as standard.
3. Driver-assist systems
One of the key areas of improvement on the 2018 Subaru Legacy is the EyeSight Driver Assist systems. The system utilises two cameras to scan the road and should it detect danger, it activates a number of safety systems to avoid a collision or just reduce damage. With this system comes a host of comfort and safety features for the driver such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Vehicle Lane Departure and Sway Warning.
In addition to the abovementioned safety systems, Subaru has also incorporated Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert indicator lamps into the side mirrors as well as Steering Responsive Headlights. Drivers further benefit from a front view camera and side view camera in addition to the rear-view camera for better vision during parking manoeuvres.
