Autonomous Emergency Braking

The Proton X50 in Premium guise comes with a host of safety and convenience features, one such item is the adaptive cruise control system. The latter utilizes a series of sensors and radars to determine the distance from, and the speed of the vehicle in front of the Proton X50. Another benefit of the feature is that the vehicle can also automatically detect if the vehicle in front is slowing down at a rapid pace or if there are stationary vehicles or large objects on the road.

In this case, the Proton X50 will apply autonomous emergency braking and can even bring the vehicle to a complete stop. This is to assist in situations where the driver's reaction time is delayed to the impending danger.

Lane Keep Assist

While most vehicles in the premium segment incorporate a lane departure warning system, the Malaysian automaker takes it one step further by including a lane keep assist system. This semi-autonomous feature will make small corrections to the steering should the radar and sensors detect the vehicle is veering to the outer limits of the lane.

Of course, the lane departure warning will also notify the driver that the vehicle is veering. However, if the driver doesn't make a correction quickly enough, the vehicle will step in. Note that this is not autonomous driving and the vehicle will require regular input from the driver.

Adaptive Cruise Control

As alluded to earlier, the Proton X50 in Premium guise comes fitted with sensors and radars that continuously monitor the road and traffic around the vehicle. This will prompt the vehicle if it needs to execute an emergency brake if the driver is slow to respond to the warnings. But in addition to this, if the adaptive cruise control system is active, it will also automatically slow the vehicle down and speed it up, based on the distance to the vehicle in front.

Thus, even if the pilot is distracted for a split second, the vehicle will slow down on its own and avoid rear-ending the vehicles in front. It is even able to complete a full stop and will automatically set off once the cars in front start moving again.
