The Mitsubishi Outlander has been around for several years now and is in its third generation. This generation itself has seen two facelifts and the replacement fourth-generation is due to be released any day now.

Only a single model is available locally, the 2.4-litre GLS model with a CVT gearbox. This presentation of a single model in their lineup echoes the sentiment that the Outlander is a bit of a forgotten son, not the first place one goes to when thinking about Mitsubishi.
Despite this, the Outlander has a lot to offer, of which safety is certainly not in short supply. The Outlander received a full 5-stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, scoring 94% for adult occupancy, an impressive 83% for child occupancy and 64% for pedestrian safety.

1. ASTC
ASTC is the acronym for Active Stability and Traction Control. This system helps ensure that you remain in control of the Outlander in emergency situations. By automatically modulating the throttle and activating the brakes individually, the ASTC system can help prevent a loss of control that would result in a spin. This keeps you pointed in the right direction for longer.
2. Airbags
There are no fewer than 7 airbags in the Mitsubishi Outlander. Both driver and passenger are taken care of with front, side, and curtain airbags that extend all the way to the rear to safeguard the passengers in the back. The driver benefits further from a knee airbag.
3. BAS
BAS, or Brake Assist System, can detect when the application of the brakes is as a result of an emergency situation. The rapid release of the throttle, combined with the sudden application of the brakes triggers the system. The BAS system detects this early on and primes the brakes for additional stopping power. Working in conjunction with the ABS and EBD, the BAS system will help reduce braking distances and hopefully keep you away from the obstruction.
