A list of some of the important safety features that can be found in the KIA Sportage.

 

1. 5-star Euro NCAP + ANCAP

The KIA Sportage was awarded the maximum 5-star crash safety rating by Euro NCAP in the 2015 round of safety testing. It scored highly for adult protection, scoring 90%, and child occupant protection was rated at 83%.

To achieve a 5-star rating with ANCAP, a vehicle must score a minimum of 32.5 points out of 37. The 2016 KIA Sportage comfortably surpassed that mark with 34.62 points.

2. Standard Safety Features

The Sportage range features a full complement of safety and driver assistance systems which include ABS brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), six airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard. Vehicle safety is ensured through the standard inclusion of central locking, as well as an alarm, immobiliser and Data Dot.

• Full-length side curtain airbags

 

3. Safety Systems

The KIA Sportage also features these systems:

Hill-start Assist (HAC) - This system prevents the vehicle from rolling back on a steep incline by applying the brakes automatically for about 2 seconds. The brakes are released when the accelerator pedal is depressed or after about 2 seconds.

Downhill Brake Control (DBC) - This system supports the driver driving down a steep hill without the driver depressing the brake pedal. It slows down the vehicle under 8 km/h and lets the driver concentrate on steering the vehicle. DBC defaults to the OFF position whenever the ignition is turned on.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) - This system is designed to stabilize the vehicle during cornering manoeuvres. ESC checks where you are steering and where the vehicle is actually going. ESC then applies the brakes on individual wheels and intervenes with the engine management system to stabilize the vehicle.
