RS torque splitter
While the RS torque splitter is considered more of a performance item, it does have safety applications. The RS torque splitter uses multiple disc clutches on each of the drive shafts to distribute variable amounts of torque to each of the rear wheels. This, of course, results in a more stable and agile driving characteristic.
While it is easy to see how this bolsters the performance aspect. Because the system sends more torque to the outer rear wheel during a corner it mitigates understeer and oversteer, both driving characteristics that could result in a loss of control during evasive manoeuvres taken to avoid a collision.
Audi virtual cockpit plus
The Audi virtual cockpit plus is essentially a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. But where traditional instrument clusters only provided information such as the vehicle speed, engine speed, fuel level and engine temperature amongst others, the virtual cockpit takes a few steps further. The pilot can configure the digital instrument cluster to not only display key information like the vehicle speed and engine speed but also pull information from the centrally fitted infotainment system such as navigation maps and entertainment information.
This means that instead of looking away from the road for longer periods of time, the driver only needs to look down for a split second to find the information they are looking for. The less time a driver's eyes leave the road, the more attentive they are and the more likely they are to identify a hazard ahead and respond accordingly.
Audi connect Emergency Call & Service
The Audi RS3 sedan comes fitted as standard with the Audi connect system. Should the vehicle detect that it was in an accident, the airbags have been deployed. This system will automatically connect to the Audi emergency call centre and provide the authorities with all the relevant information such as the GPS position of the car, driving direction, and number of passengers in the vehicle.
The system can also be manually activated in a medical emergency, such as if the driver or a passenger is suffering from a life-threatening condition.
