We've all been waiting with bated breath for the pricing announcement of the new T-Roc, and here it is...
The T-Roc, which will go on sale from November 2020, will be available in the following variants; The T-Roc 1.4 TSI 110kW Design, The T-Roc 2.0 TSI 140kW 4MOTION DSG Design, and the top-tier T-Roc 2.0 TSI 140kW 4MOTION DSG R-Line.

When the virtual launch of the T-Roc took place in June this year, Martina Biene, the head of VWSA, estimated that local pricing will have a starting price of around R500 000. Lucky for us, the T-Roc's pricing has been revealed to start at R10 600 less than that. It may not sound like much, but we're sure you can put that money to good use elsewhere, like an optional extra or two. (Or maybe just one.)
Pricing is as follows:
- VW T-Roc 1.4 TSI 110kW Tiptronic Design R489 400
- VW T-Roc 2.0 TSI 140kW 4MOTION® DSG® Design R548 300
- VW T-Roc 2.0 TSI 140kW 4MOTION® DSG® R-Line R593 600
The T-Roc, which is positioned between the more compact T-Cross and the bigger Tiguan SUV, offers "maximum personalisation, innovative digitalisation, perfect connectivity, class-leading driver assistance systems, dynamic engines, and a modern and expressive design", says Volkswagen.
Buyers of the 1.4- and 2.0 TSI Design derivatives can look forward to standard features such as Climatronic air-conditioning, a Composition Media infotainment system touchscreen, We Connect Go connectivity (via the We Connect Go app), voice control, and park distance control in the front and rear.
R-Line derivatives will have more semi-autonomous niceties such as Lane Assist, Front Assist with adaptive cruise control, Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, and additional tech such as the Light Assist package, Active Info Display (a digital instrument cluster), keyless entry, inductive mobile phone charging, and Vienna leather seats.

How much will the T-Roc cost me per month?

Who are its rivals?
Price wise, the T-Roc will compete with some established and glamorous SUVs such as the Volvo XC40, Audi Q2, Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forester, Honda CR-V, and even its own larger stablemates, the VW Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace. But, the T-Roc makes more of a fashion statement, and those looking to buy it are probably more image conscious than the target market for the more roomy and practical Tiguan.
Warranty and service plan
The Volkswagen T-Roc comes standard with a 3-year/120 000km warranty, 5-year/ 90 000km Volkswagen Service Plan and a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty.
