The top 10 cheapest cars on sale in South Africa right now range from R134 900 to R167 900. The list below features only the cheapest model offering from a brand. In some cases better-equipped derivatives would have seen the top 10 fill up with more than one offering of the same model.
Renault leads the way in mid-2019 with the cheapest new car on sale in South Africa. The Kwid 1.0 Expression at R134 900 is some R5 000 cheaper than its next rival, the Suzuki Celerio 1.0 GA
In 10th place in this list of entry-level cars is the Hyundai i10 Grand Motion at R167 900
ABS and airbags
Happily in this entry segment all these cars are now equipped with airbags, although it should be noted that the Renault Kwid and the Kia Picanto 1.0 Start only have one airbag, whereas the others in this list all have two airbags.
The Kia 1.0 Start is the only car in this top 10 list to be sold now without ABS (anti-lock) braking. However, Kia offers an ABS-equipped model in this range costing R161 995, which is just R7 000 more than the model listed here. This ABS-equipped model would have still made our top-10 if we had excluded the non-ABS 1.0 Start model.
The current best sellers in this list are the Renault Kwid, followed by the Datsun Go, the Hyundai Grand i10, the Suzuki Swift and the Kia Picanto. These sales figures, however, reflect all derivatives of a model range, and not only these entry-level models listed here.
