The Peugeot 5008 is an extremely stylish 7-seater SUV that offers a surprising amount of standard fit equipment in its market segment. Introduced in the third quarter of 2019, the stylish large Peugeot has forsaken the MPV configuration of the 5008 sold here some years ago, to re-invent itself as an unashamed SUV.
While the exterior styling of the 5008 is not as adventurous as one may expect from this French manufacturer, it can nevertheless hold its own amongst the likes of the VW Tiguan Allspace, Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe.
What’s more, once you open the driver’s door and take a peak inside, you will be delighted at the aura of modernity and luxury.
Gorgeous interior
Perhaps the most eye-catching feature of the 5008 is its styled upholstery, with the seats and accompanying trim items being covered in Nappa leather in a quilted design that makes one think of ultra-luxury British cars. Conversely, the dashboard, instrumentation and infotainment system is ultra-modern digital in form and feel. And all this is accented by the tiny leather-covered steering wheel with squared off upper and lower segments. This tiny wheel imparts a wonderfully sporty aspect to driving what is, after all, a rather big and bulky 7-seater SUV.
Model range
Peugeot offer an uncomplicated model range here. There are two engine options, the 1,6-litre turbo petrol producing 121 kW and 240 Nm of torque, and the 2,0-litre HDi turbo-diesel, which dishes up 110 kW and 340 Nm of torque. Both of these engines us a six-speed automatic gearbox driving through the front wheels.
Both engines are offered in two levels of trim. These are the entry-level Allure trim and the top-of-the-range GT-Line spec. Prices range between R550 900 for the 1.6 T Allure to R616 900 for the 2.0 HDi GT- Line.
Which models retain their value best?
The most popular seller is the 5008 1.6 T GT-Line. Even in this league of SUV, Peugeot says it is finding that there is a distinct move away from diesel-engined models. Next most popular is the 1.6 T Allure, followed by the 2.0 HDi GT-Line, and then the 2.0 HDi Allure.
However, Peugeot sales staff say that possibly because of the diesel’s relative scarcity, the top re-sale prices for the 5008 have so far been realised by the 5008 2.0 HDi GT-Line. This is then followed by the 1.6 T GT-Line, the 1.6T Allure, and the 2.0 HDi Allure.
It should be noted, however, that both new and used sales of 5008s are in their relative infancy, as the car was only introduced less than 9 months ago. We believe that in time the 1.6T GT-Line model will retain the best re-sale value, followed by the 2,0 HDi GT-Line.
AutoTrader currently lists a total of 45 New and Used Peugeot 5008 examples for sale. Most of these are for the new-generation 7-Seater SUV.
