The Kia Grand Sedona has never pretended to be anything other than what it is, a minivan. The appointment of Peter Schreyer, however, saw them discard that mentality and endeavour to create something less utilitarian and more attractive. Something that would appeal to a broader audience, one that still placed style high on their priority list.
What we got in 2014 was remarkably different and a refreshing take on an ageing theme. The Grand Sedona was now much more attractive than before and this proved to be a good move for Kia as they saw the sale numbers increase.

It was updated in 2018 for the 2019 model year and here's what they changed along the way:
1. Styling
While it wasn't a radical facelift that took place in 2018, there were enough changes to keep the design contemporary and fresh. The front grille was updated to the newer Tiger Nose design and along with it came some new headlights with LED elements on upper models. The rear bumper was pulled and tweaked a little while the taillights received the LED treatment as well - once again, on the upper-spec models.
On the inside, the fascia was redesigned and the typeset on the gauges changed to make them more legible.
2. Model reshuffle
Over the years of service, Kia noted that some models were selling better than others. This prompted them to take a look at their lineup and modify it accordingly.
The lower-spec SX model was dropped from the lineup as was the 3.3-litre V6 engine. This left the EX and SXL variants and Kia added a filler, the EX+ model. Available only in their new 8-seater configuration, the EX+ offers many of the higher-level trims and fittings but excludes some creature comforts such as the dual sunroof, memory function on the seats, seat heating and a few driver aids such as blind-spot detection.
3. Infotainment systems
Across the range, the Grand Sedona got a full infotainment system update.
The EX models got a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay while the EX+ and SXL models received a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, also with Apple CarPlay functionality.
The 8-inch unit features onboard navigation and a six-speaker audio system. Wireless charging is now included on the EX+ and SXL models as well.
4. More seating
For the first time, a rather convenient 11-seater option was added to the lineup, catering to those who opt for the Grand Sedona as a shuttle bus. This additional row of seats is only available on the EX model, once again pointing to the fleet operators who are placing cost-efficient running high on their priority list.
5. New gearbox
A new 8-speed gearbox can be found in the facelifted and updated Kia Grand Sedona. This gearbox is available across the range in all models.
The newly designed gearbox is said to include a more direct, mechanical linkage to the engine and drivetrain, resulting in less power loss and a more direct feel. Fewer pumps and actuators are used but despite this, the shifting is considerably smoother than before and shift times are reduced.
