New vs used Fiat Fullback: what are top 3 differences?
There is nothing quite like buying a new vehicle, with the peace of mind that every component is new and that new car smell, it seems like a logical choice. However, acquiring a used model could provide some advantages too and should be seriously considered when exploring the vehicle market. We take a closer look at the top 3 differences in purchasing a used Fiat Fullback Double Cab and a new one.
The Fiat Fullback is built on the Mitsubishi Triton platform and not only shares components underneath but even body panels and interior trim. This collaborative effort is not in vain as the Fullback offers good value for money in a uniquely styled exterior. 1. Transmission options
When the Fiat Fullback originally made its first local appearance in 2016, the entire model line-up came fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission. Since then Fiat added a new derivative which features a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel motor mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission which sends its power to all four wheels via the same Super Select II 4WD system found in the Mitsubishi Triton. The new model is capable of 133 kW and 430 N.m of torque 2 kW and 30 N.m more than the 2.5 Di-D offerings can produce.
While the automatic model has been on the market for a few years now, there are only three used vehicles listed on the AutoTrader platform at the time of writing this article. Should you be considering an automatic Fullback, your choices will be limited in the used market whereas purchasing a new model will offer more individualization options such as choosing a specific body colour or upholstery trim.
2. Warranty
The Fiat Fullback comes standard with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and a 5-year/100 000 km service plan. Both the service plan and warranty are attached to the vehicle which means that if the vehicle was purchased used from the previous owner within the year and range limits, the new owner will continue to benefit from the value-added services provided that vehicle meets all the requirements in the services and warranty agreements.
The included service plans and manufacturer warranties bring with it peace of mind and cost-saving as for the remainder of the plans the new owner won't have to pay for consumables or replacement parts in the immediate future. While most of the Fiat Fullback listings on the AutoTrader still falls within the 100 000km range and some even still within the 3 and 5-year periods, the used car owner might not be able to take full advantage. With a new vehicle, an owner can monitor their use from the start of the ownership period and ultimately get the maximum value out the included plans and warranty.
3. Aftermarket accessories
When driving on local roads, you might be noticing that not only is there a great variety of bakkies but also bakkies featuring a collection of exterior add-ons. Most manufacturers offer exterior and interior accessories that can be purchased with your vehicle when new and fitted by a specialised technician, however, there are a plethora of businesses that solely sell aftermarket parts and accessories. While you might be tempted to fit an aftermarket nudge bar or wheels to your bakkie, it can affect the validity of your vehicle's manufacturer warranty.
When searching for a used vehicle you might notice a few examples that come fitted some enhancements and as such you don't have to spend any more money after purchasing the vehicle to make it stand out. However, the onus is on you to make sure the fitted parts did not in any way alter the warranties typically associated with components in that area of the vehicle. Another benefit in purchasing a used vehicle, in particular one that is outside its warranty and service plan period, is that you can go mad when customising your vehicle without worrying too much. Furthermore, because the vehicle is slightly older chances are that it will cost significantly less than a new model, leaving you with more money to spend on that aggressive nudge bar you have been wanting.
