New vs old Peugeot 208: what are top 3 differences?

In the Peugeot 208 range, there’s a line-up of newer engines that achieve a level of performance usually associated with larger engines, but with significantly reduced fuel consumption and CO2 exhaust emissions. A GT-Line with exterior and interior updates was also launched.

 

1. Engines

The latest Peugeot 208 Active and Allure models are powered by a PureTech 3-cylinder engine available in a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre 60 kW version. The PureTech 3-cylinder is also available in a turbocharged 1.2-litre 81 kW version fitted on the GT Line with Stop&Start technology. The GT Line version is available with a 5-speed manual transmission, or the 6-speed EAT6 automatic gearbox (Efficient Automatic Transmission 6-speed).

The PureTech 3-cylinder petrol turbo engines were designed to produce drivability and performance while combining efficiency with cutting edge technology. It finds the perfect balance between torque and power at low revs and generates a substantial saving in fuel consumption, with reduced CO2 emissions, compared to other vehicles with equivalent power and torque ratings. Combined with the automatic EAT6 gearbox, the 1.2 PureTech 81 kW EAT6 S&S turbo version emits CO2 emissions of only 116 g/km. 

 

2. Automatic Gearbox

The Peugeot 208 1.2 PureTech Turbo 81kW EAT6 S&S is equipped with a 6 speed EAT6 (Efficient Automatic Transmission) automatic gearbox, which optimises fuel consumption and enhances the driving experience. This gearbox uses Quickshift technology allowing for faster gear changes. Its capacity for energy efficiency is almost equivalent to that of a manual gearbox with reduced friction and lockable converters in every section to prevent slippage. It has been designed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and is comparable with the equivalent manual, making it extremely well positioned in both drivability and fuel consumption.

 

3. New flagship model

Last year Peugeot launched a revitalized new flagship model for the range called the Peugeot 208 GT-Line. 

The GT-Line is said to have an excellent level of specification and it adopts many of the styling attributes of the iconic GTi model.
