Mazda CX-5 Trims And Their Standard Safety Features

We inspect the various Mazda CX-5 trim levels to see which has the best safety features.

 

It's no secret, we have a soft spot for the Mazda CX-5 – well, I do at least. It's a well-specced, comprehensive vehicle that ticks more boxes than the price would suggest.

Mazda has followed the trend set by the Korean manufacturers in that they include most of their accessories and convenience items as standard, doing away with extensive options lists.

This means that there are no additional safety options that can be fitted to a lower-spec model, instead, you're encouraged to step up a model grade.

The range starts with the CX-5 2.0 Active FWD, coming in at R392 400 but despite being the entry point in the range, it's still equipped with a considerable amount of safety equipment.

 

You get:

• Airbags: Driver, passenger, side and curtain
• Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
• Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
• Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
• Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
• Hill Launch Assist (HLA)
• G-Vectoring Control (GVC)
• Reverse camera
• Auto door lock
• Remote central locking
• Isofix mounting points

 

I'm sure you'll agree that this is a respective list of safety equipment. Both Active and Dynamic models share this level of safety with the Dynamic offering more in the way of luxury trimmings.

The safety improves when you move onto the Individual and Akera models in the CX-5 range. They have the same equipment as the Active and Dynamic but add the following:

 

• Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
• Heads-Up Display (HUD) - Windshield Display
• Parking sensors (Front and Rear) with reverse camera
• Smart City Brake System (SCBS)
• Driver Attention Alert (DAA)
• Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
• Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
