Is the Toyota Prius good for new drivers? Here’s our verdict.

There is no shortage of attractive features available with the latest Prius models, but is it for you?

Buying a Car

For a family car, yes the Prius should be considered, but for a new driver, unless fuel economy is the biggest and most important concern to you, there are plenty of other options available to you on the market. Smaller cars are always better for new drivers as they get used to traffic, parking and learning the way of the roads in the real world. 

But who am I to tell you not to get a big car, if you are interested in getting a Prius, here are 5 things to consider:

 

1. Environmentally Friendly

The primary reason so many people in Europe are moving to hybrid vehicles is that they are so environmentally friendly. Just in the US alone, the Prius range has said to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an approximate 11 million tons. It’s for this reason, Prius owners are said to be helping the environment every single day.

2. Fuel efficient

The second top reason for purchasing a Prius is the amount of money you save on fuel. Since our fuel prices are constantly escalating, the Prius will help you spend more time on the road and less time and money at the pumps.

 

 

3. Comfort and Spacious Interior

The four-door Prius offers family-friendly boot space equivalent to 264 litres and plenty of passenger space. Drivers have a power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support that allows for good comfort.

Other comfort features include: Seat Heater for the driver and front passenger, electric windows, power steering, a USB port, wireless charging, and a Door Courtesy Lamp among other things.

4. Safety

Safety features in the Prius include seven airbags: front (driver + passenger), curtain, side (front) and driver's knee. There’s also a full active electronic suite Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist and Traction Control) as well as ISOFIX attachment points.

There’s also a Reverse Camera with display audio and guidelines.

5. Smart Tech

The Prius is fitted with a Smart Key System/ Smart Entry, as standard, that allows you to lock and unlock the driver’s door by touching the handle and starting the car by a push of a button. There’s also a Heads Up Display in the Prius that projects important information onto the windshield in line of the driver’s eye so eyes can be kept on the road at all times.

Other features include Illuminated Entry, Light Remind Warning, Door Ajar Warning, and a rear 12V Power Socket.
