Is the Haval H1 good for new drivers?

The Haval H1 is not only a great car for new drivers but also for students, young professionals and the like. 

 

The Haval H1 presents itself as a miniature SUV as its raised ground clearance is sufficient for some light off-roading. This dynamic compact crossover stands tall with its 16-inch alloys, standard, and is filled with features that will appeal to the youth.

 

Interior

It has a modern design with lines that give it a proud and assertive stance. Its interior is fresh and well-styled and also features a sporty instrument panel. Audio and ventilation systems have an ergonomically designed control interface that will resonate with the likes of students. Adding to the style in the cabin is black cloth upholstery which is combined with silver accents on the facias and the doors.

 

Space and Comfort

The H1 isn’t considered a compact crossover for no reason. Compact is generally petite and cosy but despite this, the H1 is rather practical. It offers decent head and legroom in its segment while the boot offers 310 litres of space which can be extended when the rear seats are folded down. Books, projects, bags, sports gear – there’ll be sufficient space for it.

 

Convenience

The raised ground height allows for a good ride height for the driver which in turn allows for good visibility. Front seats and the steering wheel can be adjusted to the driver's comfort. Other convenience features include electric windows and mirrors, air-conditioning and a USB/AUX-enabled audio with Bluetooth capabilities. Which is great for those young people who prefer listening to their own music or streaming music over the radio.

Campus parking is made easy with the Rear park assist system that comes standard.

 

Engine

The H1 is powered by a 1.5-litre in-line four-cylinder naturally aspirated VVT-I (variable valve timing) petrol engine that puts out maximum power of 69 kW @ 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 130 Nm @ 4000-4900 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Fuel efficiency is rated at 7.2l/100 km on a combined cycle while CO2 emissions were measured at 172 g/km. It reaches a top speed of 170 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in over 10 seconds. The drive in the H1 has been described as smooth and comfortable and the response was said to effective.

 

Safety

Haval says that the H1 has been designed to meet *global safety standards and a comprehensive safety package offers peace of mind. Dual front airbags and disc brakes all-round backed by ABS with EBD are fitted. ISOFIX child seat mountings are mounted at the rear and the front seatbelts are height-adjustable. The rear doors also feature child locks.

Fog lights front and rear boost visibility in poor weather conditions while security is provided by a standard immobiliser, with the further convenience of remote central locking and a car-locating function.

Verdict

With the price tag of R179,900, the  is suited to the young couple, young families, or any youngster on the move actually. Make your way through the city to get to campus or to get to work in an affordable, comfortable and stylish vehicle.
