Is a Renault Sandero expensive to maintain?

The Renault Sandero quickly garnered popularity after its local introduction for its affordability and frugality. However, will it remain an affordable option once the service plan expires? We find out what the estimated maintenance costs are on the Renault Sandero in the 66 kW Expression guise.

Buying a Car

The Sandero name first made its local appearance in 2007 and subsequently became a popular offering by the French automaker. Although at the time of writing this article, Renault no longer offers the Sandero model as new, there is a considerable amount available in the used market and at appealing prices.

However, while the compact hatchback has proved itself in its practicality and frugality, maintenance costs are always at the back of the vehicle buyer's mind. This is why we draw upon the 2020 AA Kinsey Spare Parts Pricing Guide to find out how much the estimated maintenance will cost on the Renault Sandero in the 66 kW Expression guise.

Servicing

Like with any other vehicle, the Renault Sandero will require servicing to operate for as long as possible without fault and at its most efficient. To give a better idea of whether the service parts of the Renault Sandero are expensive, we will be comparing them to those of the Toyota Starlet 1.4 in XS guise.

Maintenance

The longer a vehicle is operated, the more certain parts wear. This is no different for the Renault Sandero and depending on the age of the vehicle or the overall condition, owners will have to consider replacing these items as part of the vehicle's maintenance. Once again, we matched up the Sandero with the similarly priced Toyota Starlet to get some context on the parts pricing.

2020 Renault Sandero 66 kW Expression 2020 Toyota Starlet 1.4 XS
Cam Belt / Timing Chain R 3 925.36 R 1692.68

Rear Brake Disc / Drum (Each) R 2 595.68 R 2 149.18

Verdict

Although the 2020 Renault Sandero 66 kW Expression proves to be fairly similar to the 2020 Toyota Starlet 1.4 XS in terms of service parts pricing, it is when we compare the maintenance costs that a significant difference is shown. Thus, we can see that the Renault Sandero is affordable to service, however, it is more expensive to maintain than some of its segment competitors.
