Here you will find a breakdown of the Hyundai Tucson range, its models, pricing, safety features and more.

What is it?

The Tucson is one of Hyundai’s top-selling models in South Africa. The compact SUV is a five-seater soft-roader that embodies all the strengths of the South Korean automaker. These include five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP tests, good value, a good list of equipment and comfort.

The name is not new, however, it was used on a new model that replaced the smaller ix35 in 2015. The Tucson plays in a very competitive segment against some rivals that include the Toyota RAV-4Mazda CX-5Kia SportageHonda CR-V, and several others.

How many models can I choose from? What do the cost?

There are nine models you can choose from:

Tucson 2.0 Premium (manual) starting from R409,900.00

Tucson 2.0 Premium (automatic) starting from R429,900.00

Tucson 2.0 Executive (automatic) starting from R469,900.00

Tucson 2.0 Elite (automatic) starting from R509,900.00

Tucson R2.0 Executive Turbodiesel (automatic) starting from R539,900.00

Tucson 1.6 TGDI Elite (Dual Clutch Transmission) starting from R574,900.00

Tucson 1.6 TGDI Elite Sport AWD (Dual Clutch Transmission) starting from R599,900.00

Tucson 1.6 TGDI Executive Sport (manual) starting from R499,900.00

Tucson R2.0 Elite Turbodiesel (automatic) starting from R584,900.00

What about warranty?

Included in the price of a Tucson is:

  • A 5 year/90 000 km service plan;
  • A 7-year/200 000 km warranty (comprised of Hyundai’s 5-year/150 000 km warranty, with an extended 2-year/50 000 km drivetrain warranty);
  • Roadside assistance for 5 years or 150 000.

All service intervals are at 15 000 km, with a mandatory initial 5,000 km service for the Tucson 1.6 TGDI Elite derivative.

Safety

When the Korean cars arrived in South Africa they were perceived to be low-end vehicles but Hyundai has become one of the leading automakers in the world, especially when it comes to reliability and safety

Passive safety features can be found in the Hyundai Tucson which includes dual front and side airbags (driver and passenger), as well as curtain airbags that offer protection for rear passengers in all derivatives. Isofix fixtures for child safety seats are also fitted in all the Tucson derivatives.

The Executive and Elite versions are fitted with Blind Spot Detection, Cross Traffic Alert, Vehicle Stability Management that keeps the car stable across different surfaces, and Hill-start Assist Control to prevent roll-back on an incline.

What's new for 2018?

Hyundai's Tucson range received some revisions that included a fresh new design with the addition of the Hyundai signature cascading grille, a new design front bumper with a refined new light signature with full LED headlights, new fog lamps, a new rear taillight design, new gearboxes (a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission and 8-speed automatic transmission ) and a few derivative changes.

In the cabin, there's a redesigned dashboard that features high-quality soft-touch material with a floating 7-inch audio system screen for the infotainment system that offers Apple CarPlay.

The list of standard equipment includes DAB radio, LED daytime running lights, Bluetooth and air-conditioning on all models.
