How much are car repayments on a new Nissan Patrol?

Large, truly off-road-capable SUVs have become pretty expensive lately, with even the least-expensive examples heading towards the million-Rand mark, and premium-branded offerings reaching up to four times as much. So, even with its rather steep pricetag, the Nissan Patrol is on the affordable side of this spectrum. We investigated the car repayments on a new Nissan Patrol.

Old-school charm and abilities, draped in modern(ish) sheet metal

Having recently received a facelift, the latest Nissan Patrol mirrors its manufacturer’s latest corporate styling language. To be honest, that newly squared-off face probably suits the blocky body style better than did the old, soft-edged front end, and adds an air of menace that its slightly putty-faced predecessor somehow lacked.

It’s much the same beast under the skin, mind you, and still rides on the old “Y62” platform that first appeared internationally in 2010. It’s suitably refined, though, thanks to a coil-sprung independent suspension system all round, and a hydraulic body motion control (HBMC) system that tries to limit body roll through corners without compromising on the Patrol’s off-road abilities.

The latest (mid-2020) facelift also introduced updated in-cabin and safety technology, with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control that looks two cars ahead to determine its responses in advance. The 13-speaker multi-screen DVD colour touchscreen infotainment system remains, however, having been introduced when the Y62 Patrol first arrived here in 2017.

At the time of writing, the old (Y61) Nissan Patrol bakkies aren’t listed anymore, which reduces the local Patrol range to a single, completely-equipped model. It’s powered by a naturally-aspirated, 5.6-litre petrol V8, producing 298 kW and 560 Nm, mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox and an electronically-controlled 4WD system. Claimed fuel consumption is 14.4 ℓ/100 km, but real-world driving will see closer to 20 ℓ/100 km average figures.

We consulted the latest price list to get the current base price of this model, and then calculated its monthly instalments with the Wesbank Finance Calculator. These calculated instalments are based on the list price, paid off over 72 months, at an interest rate of 13% with a 10% deposit, and excludes optional extras and administrative- and financing charges.

There is no balloon payment structured into this agreement, and the finance package excludes administration fees and on-the-road costs. Naturally, individual profiles will vary, and interest rates will be awarded according to credit history. On top of these repayments, buyers must also budget for additional expenses: fuel, insurance, and maintenance. These will all vary depending on individual circumstances.
