How much are car repayments on a new Ford Figo?
Money’s too tight to mention, which is why increasing numbers of new-car buyers are shopping lower down the price ladder. One of the strongest contenders in this high-value market segment is Ford’s Figo range, so we decided to investigate the car payments necessary to park one in your driveway. Which trim level will suit your budget?
It’s almost like a Fiesta, but much less expensive
Seeing as the Ford Fiesta has been forced upmarket by ever-increasing new-car prices, the Figo currently serves two purposes in Ford’s line-up. At the lower end, it gives a (relatively) spartan entry point into the Ford range, moving to near-Fiesta equipment levels and even a crossover variant at the top. If you can afford to splurge on something a little bigger (and nicer) than the budget-priced minicars at the very bottom end of the market, there might be a Figo that’s perfect for you.

The Figo fights in a hotly contested segment, with Volkswagen’s Polo Vivo still dominating the sales charts, and Suzuki’s Swift bridging the gap between city cars and regular superminis. It has enough virtues of its own to make a compelling choice, though, with a class-leading engine, good driving dynamics, reasonable spec levels, solid build quality, and competitive pricing.
All Figos employ the same 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine, and almost all variants use a 5-speed manual gearbox, with a choice between a 5-door hatchback body or a 4-door sedan. There’s one automatic variant as well, but it’s only available in mid-level “Trend” trim, and only with a hatchback body. This is what remains of the range after its recent facelift, when the Freestyle crossover derivative was introduced.

There’s a soft-roader as well
As for that Freestyle variant, it can be specified with either “Trend” or top-level “Titanium” trim, but is only available as a manual-transmission hatchback. Power across the board is pegged at 88 kW and 150 Nm, and official fuel consumption claims vary between 5.5 ℓ/100 km and 6.5 ℓ/100 km, depending on the transmission choice.
How much would it cost you to buy a Figo? We ran the numbers on the entire model range, to determine how deep a dent it would make in your monthly budget. We consulted the current price list to get the base price of each model, and then calculated their monthly instalments with the Wesbank Finance Calculator. These calculated instalments use the base price, paid off over 72 months, at an interest rate of 13% with a 10% deposit.
There is no balloon payment structured into this agreement, and the finance package excludes administration fees and on-the-road costs. Naturally, individual profiles will vary, and interest rates will be awarded according to credit history. On top of these repayments, buyers must also budget for additional expenses: fuel, insurance, and maintenance. These will all vary, depending on individual circumstances.
