Haval H6 vs Mazda CX-5 vs Renault Koleos: which one has the best infotainment system?
Haval is on a roll at the moment, releasing SUVs that the South African public find appealing, the latest of which is the spacious and well-specified H6. We compare the infotainment system in the newcomer with two established rivals to determine which is best.
Chinese automaker Haval has experienced unprecedented growth within the local market, having registered as the seventh most popular automaker in the South African market from a sales perspective at the time of writing.
Its popularity is sure to grow further with the introduction of models such as the Jolion and the latest H6, which latter of which we will be focussing on today. Modern infotainment systems are becoming increasingly important to consumers as we progress to a more connected future. With this in mind, we are going to compare the system in the H6 with that in the Mazda CX-5 and Renault Koleos.
Haval H6
The H6 comes with an impressive 12.3-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system that allows the user to adjust almost all vehicle settings, including climate control, media, and vehicle settings. The system currently offers Apple CarPlay and will soon offer Android Auto functionality when a licencing issue with Google is addressed. The system also offers voice control, Bluetooth functionality and, of course, AM/FM radio functionality.
Mazda CX-5
The CX-5 comes with an 8.0-inch MZD infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. In place of touchscreen feedback is a rotary dial in the centre console and the ability to adjust the system from the multi-function steering wheel. The system also includes an SD Card slot with satellite navigation pre-loaded, AM/FM radio, a CD player, AUX jack as well as AHA and Stitcher Radio compatibility.
Renault Koleos
The Koleos features the brand’s R-LINK 2 Sat Nav and Multimedia system which in horizontal mode offers an 8.7-inch vertical screen that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. The system features voice recognition, adjustment via the multi-function steering wheel, sat-nav, phone calls, application compatibility as well as AM/FM radio.
Verdict
Looking at the infotainment systems in each car, connectivity is certainly a priority for each model, however, the Mazda appears to have the most dated system while the user experience in the Koleos leaves a lot to be desired. This grants the win to the Haval, however, with the caveat that Android Auto is added soon, as this is an important consideration for consumers.
