Perhaps the last thing you’ll be thinking of after your first test drive in a Ferrari F8 Tributo will be the warranty and the maintenance plan. Rather you’ll be revelling in the sound of the twin-turbo V8 revving to its 8 000 rpm redline and forcing your brain to catch up with the rate at which the road ahead is being swallowed up!
But when it comes time to sign on the bottom line for a starting price of R5,5-million plus some change, we feel sure you’ll have asked some searching questions about mechanical guarantees and servicing costs.
Ferrari warranties – the good news!
The good news is that every Ferrari sold world-wide comes with a bumper-to-bumper warranty with a duration of three years, with no restrictions on distance covered. That unlimited kilometre clause makes good sense from Ferrari’s point of view, because there are not many Ferraris that are going to be racking up hundreds of thousands of kilometres on an annual basis. Yes, we have heard of some Ferraris being used as daily-drivers, but we reckon 95 per cent of these wonderful cars lead pampered lives in hermetically-sealed garages. Until, that is, they are rolled out on Sundays for a quick blast to the nearest mountain road.
Flexible warranty schemes
The standard Ferrari 3-year warranty is known as the Ferrari Commercial Warranty, which is included in the new-car price, is valid internationally and offers full coverage for any replacement parts and labour that might be needed.
To further preserve the value of its products, Ferrari has also created a number of exclusive warranty formulas that, at extra cost, extend the normal cover offered by the Ferrari manufacturer's warranty, for up to 15 years.
Ferrari Power extended warranty
The first of these schemes is the Ferrari Power extended warranty. Here, Ferrari offers owners the option (at extra cost) to extend the warranty period by a further 12 or 24 months once the manufacturer's 3-year warranty expires, with the same benefits and cover.
New Power - an extended warranty for Ferraris up to 15 years old
No doubt bearing in mind that most Ferraris cover very little annual mileage, Ferrari also offers warranties for cars up 15 years old. Called “New Power” this is a Ferrari Extended Warranty (for vehicles with an expired 3-year Commercial Warranty), that are within their fourteenth year of age. It can be renewed annually, and covers all of the key vehicle parts and systems. It is a flexible formula available, and can be requested at any point during the specified period.
Provisos for New Power eligibility
In order to qualify for New Power, the vehicle must be inspected by the authorised Ferrari network to certify compliance with the quality requirements specified by the manufacturer and to check the traceability of its service history. In addition, the car in question must have no more than 90,000 km on the clock. Furthermore, the vehicle must not have been tampered with in any way, stolen, entered into competitions/races or have been used for short and long-term rental by companies operating in this sector.
This scheme should offer great peace of mind to would-be-buyers of older Ferraris with a proven service history and provenance. If you are in the market for an older example of one of these iconic supercars, AutoTrader currently lists nearly 200 examples of pre-owned Ferraris!
Even better news – the Ferrari new-car maintenance plan
Ferrari has led the way in offering a 7-year maintenance plan for all its cars, and it is a globally-approved scheme which is unique. Known as Genuine Maintenance, the program includes scheduled servicing and covers the costs of labour, original replacement parts, lubricants, engine oil and brake fluid.
Each Genuine Maintenance contract is specifically linked to each Ferrari sold. And in the event of the car being sold it is passed on to the next owner.
The cost of the Genuine Maintenance program is included in the price of each and every new Ferrari sold. This, of course, naturally applies to new examples of the Ferrari F8 Tributo.
Ferrari F8 Tributo Vital Statistics
The Ferrari F8 Tributo arrived in South Africa in June 2019 and is acknowledged as one of the most beautiful mid-engined Ferraris ever built. It is also the most powerful V8 Ferrari with its 3,9-litre twin-turbo engine producing 530 kW and 770 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2,9 seconds, from 0-200 km/h in just 7,8 seconds, and its top speed is rated at 340 km/h. Since the F8 Tributo’s launch, the F8 Spider was launched in March this year, The open-topped F8 is some R600 000 more expensive than the F8 Tributo.
