Is the Porsche 718 Spyder a good car?

The Porsche 718 Spyder is indeed a good car and can even be considered a future classic as it combines the thrill of open-top driving with the performance of the GT4.

Who is the Porsche 718 Spyder a good car for?

The Porsche 718 Spyder is a good car for individuals that not only want straight-line speed and elegant styling but dynamic handling too. With the added performance over the 718 Boxter it is more aggressive under acceleration and offers a higher top speed.

Is the Porsche 718 Spyder a good first car?

Considering that it is a sports car, it is comfortable and intuitive to drive. However, due to its aggressive acceleration and higher top speed, we would recommend the 718 Boxter for first-time car buyers as it should prove a little more manageable at the limit. We would also recommend an advanced driving course for more confidence on the road or on the track.

Is the Porsche 718 Spyder a good family car?

Due to only offering seating for two the 718 Spyder won't necessarily suit the needs of a typical family. However, owners should know that the 718 Spyder offers ample luggage space for those weekend trips, a combined 420 litres to be exact.

Is there a Hybrid Porsche 718 Spyder?

At the time of writing this article, there is no hybrid Porsche 718 Spyder variant. Instead, the model is motivated by a 4.0-litre, 6-cylinder, boxer motor producing 309 kW and 420 Nm in the manual derivative and 430 Nm in the automatic variant.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

The dynamic attributes combine to form a car that inspires confidence in the driver. You never feel scared or intimidated by the Spyder because there isn’t a lump of torque waiting to be unleashed by a turbocharger. Exploiting the limits of adhesion can be done progressively too, because the steering and chassis are so communicative, allowing the driver to push harder every time. Put simply, this is what a mid-engine sportscar should feel like.

Interior

What is the Porsche 718 Spyder like inside?

In terms of styling and materials used, the 718 Spyder is nearly identical to the Porsche Cayman GT4. While the fit and finish quality are very high, as can be expected from the German automaker, the interior of the 718 Spyder does seem a little analogue when compared to some of the other offerings available currently from Porsche. Nevertheless, it remains a comfortable cabin to be in, even for a performance-focused sports car.

Style

Upfront the 718 Spyder has similar styling to the Cayman GT4, however, a smaller front splitter feature. At the rear, the 718 Spyder is more removed from the GT4 as instead of the large spoiler, the Spyder offers a retractable rear wing. This means that the unique rear deck with the long flowing buttresses can be admired without obstruction. Also important to note is where the 718 Boxter has an electronically operated roof, the Spyder owner will have to manually raise or lower the roof, however, it is not tideous.
