Is the Opel Astra a good car?
The Astra is a very good car. So good, in fact, that it won the SAGMJ South African Car of the Year competition in 2017.
The Opel Astra also scooped both overall victory and a category win at the 2016 Best of the Best Awards held by Independent Motoring, grabbing the trophy for Overall Best of the Best award and Best Family Car award.
In 2019, Opel added an Astra Sport 1.6T auto with 147kW and 280Nm to the local lineup with the OPC-Line Pack for the exterior and interior.
Other existing engines consisted of a 1.0 Turbo Ecotec EcoFlex, 1.4 EcoTec and 1.6 EcoTec. (All are turbocharged.)

Is the Astra a good first car?
It's ideal for new or inexperienced drivers because of its onboard tech and 5-star safety rating. It's also light on fuel. Just bear in mind that Opel parts can be pricey.
