Is the Nissan 370Z a good car?

Unveiled in 2009, the 370Z had an astonishing run of 11-years before finally bowing out. It replaced the immensely popular Nissan 350Z and formed part of the Nissan Z-car heritage that dates back to as early as 1969 when the first Datsun 240Z rolled off the line. The 11-year run speaks to the popularity of the model.

Who is the Nissan 370Z a good car for?

The Nissan 370Z is ideal for the driving enthusiast. The VQ37 engine is a high-revving V6 that sends power to the rear wheels for a true purist approach to motoring. The low-slung driving position and engaging handling characteristics are ideal for those that love driving and want to do so in an attractive coupe.

Is the Nissan 370Z a good first car?

We don't recommend the Nissan 370Z as a first car. The rear-wheel-drive drivetrain requires an experienced hand as to avoid getting into trouble. The limited seating, packing space and low seating position make this better suited to a more well-versed individual.

Is the Nissan 370Z a good family car?

The Nissan 370Z does not make for a good family car. There is only seating for two and the boot space is limited. This is a sports car through-and-through.

Is there a Hybrid Nissan 370Z?

The Nissan 370Z is only offered with the naturally aspirated, petrol VQ37VHR 3.7-litre V6 engine and it is devoid of any hybrid assistance.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

"Despite all the fast cars I’ve driven before, I still hadn’t driven any derivative of the Nissan Z-cars before this one arrived. Once I hit the road, I could sense that the Nissan 370Z feels solid and composed. Its road stature is supported by a mechanical package that justifies its reputation as a satisfying sports car."

Interior

What is the Nissan 370Z like inside?

A driver-focussed cabin awaits you as you enter with two, deep bucket seats to hold you in place. Ahead of the driver lies a centrally-mounted tachometer and a bank of performance gauges sit ontop of the dashboard, angled towards the driver. A simple controls layout placed the focus on driving and less on frivolous creature comforts.

Style

When the Z33 Nissan 350Z launched, it paid homage to the early Z-cars with a long bonnet, short rear overhangs and retro-inspired details like the vertical vents in the front bumper and the allot door handles. The Z34 Nissan 370Z borrows heavily from this design with restyled head and taillights that pull backwards into the sheet metal. The cab-backwards design remains, placing the driver closer to the rear axle and better able to feel what the chassis is doing underneath.

Tech features

  • Exedy clutch
  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • 7-inch infotainment
  • Rear-view camera
  • Syncro Rev Control

Price and specs

Which is the cheapest Nissan 370Z?

The Nissan 370Z is no longer available new but used prices range from R280 000 for an early, pre-update model to R490 000 for a late model with low mileage.
