Is the Citroën C5 Aircross a good car?

The French SUV is most certainly a good car and even the lower specified Feel derivative offers good value for money. Citroën has also invested a lot to have a local parts storage facility for quicker turnaround times at the service centres and cheaper maintenance costs for the owner.

Who is the Citroën C5 Aircross a good car for?

The Citroën C5 Aircross is a good car for individuals that want a larger vehicle with enough space for a family and a tall ground clearance for off-the-beaten-path adventures.

Is the Citroën C5 Aircross a good first car?

Although the French model is a larger vehicle, it shouldn't take a new driver long to get used to the dimensions. As with the rest of the Citroën range, the C5 Aircross is easy to pilot and offers a host of standard safety equipment such as six airbags, coffee break alert, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, active safety brake, park distance sensors and hill-start assist.

Is the Citroën C5 Aircross a good family car?

Considering the large cabin space, outer rear and front passenger ISOfix mounting points and 520-litre boot, it is safe to say that the Citroën C5 Aircross will make for a really good family vehicle.

Is there a Hybrid Citroën C5 Aircross?

At the time of writing this article, the Citroën C5 Aircross range is only offered with a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine. The motor is coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission and is capable of producing 121 kW and 240 Nm of torque. No hybrid derivative is on offer as of yet.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

The nimble and fleet-footed C5 Aircross feels more suited to the city's tarmac and long, winding country roads than it does to the dilapidated dirt roads we explored in the Overberg District, but I reckon this is mostly due to the C5's large wheels. The new Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension system with two hydraulic stops on either side, are supposed to create the sensation of a 'magic carpet ride', avoiding sudden jolts and such, but even a Toyota Prado would probably have been unsettled on these washed-out roads after the recent storms.

Interior

What is the Citroën C5 Aircross like inside?

The interior is well specified and stylish with the dashboard incorporating a soft-edged rectangular design. The horizontal styling is broken up with vertical vents as well as the 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. While the Feel derivative offers cloth upholstery, the Shine variant comes with partial leather seats and a panoramic roof. Overall the cabin is spacious and comfortable as the French automaker focussed heavily on providing ample shoulder, leg and headroom.

Style

Most notable on the Citroën C5 Aircross is the double-layer headlamp-effect with daytime running lamps that feature above the main headlamp units. Also, the entire vehicle incorporates a more rounded design rather than angular or sharp lines as seen on other models in this segment. Another exterior feature is the Airbumps on the panels which protect the vehicle from nicks and bumps, however, are more understated than you would find on earlier models.
