Is the BMW iX3 a good car?

Released in the second half of 2022 in South Africa, the iX3 brings an 80 kWh battery that powers the rear-wheel drive electric motor. Power figures sit at 210kW and 400Nm and one can expect a best-case scenario of 461km from a single charge but realistic day-to-day returns closer to 380km with a remaining 10% battery charge.

Who is the BMW iX3 a good car for?

The BMW iX3 is perfectly suited for those who are wanting to get into the electric car life but are not wanting to be overwhelmed by multiple screens and over-the-top tech changes. It comes across very much the same as a normal X3 model with only small indicators telling you that you are in an electric vehicle.

Is the BMW iX3 a good first car?

At first glance the sticker price may seem high but when taking into account what a specced 3 series costs, the iX3 is good value for money and with its top-tier safety systems a new driver could very well drive the iX as a first car.

Is the BMW iX3 a good family car?

Sporting a 510l boot and an interior space that rivals the best, a medium-sized family fits perfectly with the iX3. The iX3 is also well equipped in the safety arena with all the alphabet soup systems as well as 6 airbags and ISOfix for kiddie chairs.

Is there a Hybrid BMW iX3?

The iX3 is fully electric so there is no hybrid petrol offering.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

All that you need to know about the iX3 is that it's nearly identical to the current X3 range, but it has electric power instead. The exterior, interior and drive are so remarkably similar to the X3 that you'd be forgiven for thinking this is a diesel X3. Local models wear M Sport trimmings but these are purely cosmetic and the iX3 offers a compliant ride as a result.

The South African offering is only available in M Sport guise with a full synthetic leather interior trimmed with "Rhombicle Dark Aluminium" trim accents with a focus on the sporty aspects of the vehicle.
