The Corolla Cross, Toyota's locally produced, compact SUV superstar, is the car on everyone's lips. It's spacious, well-specified, safe, and even SA's Car of the Year for 2022. It is flying off the showroom floors as it offers excellent value and peace of mind, thanks to that badge in the middle of its nose.
But does it have a sunroof?
The short answer is no. If the sunroof is a dealbreaker for you, but you must have a Toyota, may we suggest the bigger RAV4?

What about alternatives to the Corolla Cross from other brands - with a sunroof?
There are some excellent options available to South Africans because we simply cannot get enough of SUVs - click on the model name to be taken to the latest review(s).
1. Suzuki Vitara
All models currently have a panoramic roof as standard. Pricing for the Vitara kicks off at R438 900.
2. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
The top-spec Exceed model was recently (February 2023) added to the range and it has a sunroof as standard, but it doesn't come cheap at R560 000. We haven't reviewed this new model yet.
3. BAIC Beijing X55
I can't say I've driven one myself, but my colleagues all agree that it's a car to be reckoned with. Top-spec Premium models (R454 900) have a panoramic roof as standard. As for reliability, it's only after 3 years of ownership that we'll have a better idea - so if you're a little cautious of a 'new' brand, it's understandable. It would be best to stick to a more established brand like VW, Mitsubishi, or Suzuki if you're being careful.
Some great alternatives without a sunroof
1. Kia Seltos
The Seltos is a wonderful family car, very spacious for the segment. The diesel models get my vote.

2. Hyundai Creta
A mainstay in the local market - but do go for a used, 7-seater Hyundai Grand Creta in Elite guise instead if you need more space, a sunroof, and a diesel powerplant. (Pictured above is the 5-seater petrol model.)

Search AutoTrader for a used Hyundai Grand Creta 1.5D Elite here.
3. Renault Duster
Still one of my favourites - especially if saving fuel is a priority.
4. Volkswagen T-Cross
Looking for something stylish? The Volkswagen T-Cross is a looker and it's a great drive too.
5. Mahindra XUV300
If you're budget-driven, might we suggest the Mahindra XUV300? They're safe and well-equipped. Used models are very affordable.
