ISOfix seats are expensive! But good-quality seats that work with only the car's seatbelt offer sufficient protection too, if fitted correctly.
We were once involved in an accident on the highway in an old Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which was written off. The kids were safely strapped into their car seats (a Maxi Cosi infant seat and a Maxi Cosi booster seat), and were unharmed.
