Buying a Car

Apple CarPlay has been one of the most significant developments in the world of interconnectivity. As the world progresses towards seamless integration between the various facets of our lives, the internet-of-things comes to the forefront in the advances being made in the automotive world. Having the ability to switch between your phone and your car with the same information and connectivity has opened up the door for numerous services and features.

Related: What is Apple CarPlay? How does it work?

With so much happening and taking place on our phones these days, it's useful to have access to some of that information and functionality when driving. This extends past the streaming of the music stored on your phone, or access to your contacts list. One of the most useful features is the integration of navigational software.

Picture it, you're sitting in your lounge and you find a restaurant you would like to visit. From the comfort of your couch, you can search for the address on your phone and start the navigation. When you then climb into your car, the same navigation and destination are presented to you on your infotainment screen without you having to search for it again. This is only one of the convenience features that smartphone tethering offers.

What is Apple CarPlay?

Apple CarPlay is a system in a vehicle, a combination of infotainment software and USB or Bluetooth connectivity that allows for approved apps that are installed on your phone to be displayed on your infotainment screen. While you won't get access to YouTube, you will be able to access your music library, audio streaming services, telephony, navigation, Whatsapp, and many others. This allows you to stay connected while on the road and allows you to interact with your phone through the infotainment controls using an operating system that is familiar to you.

While each manufacturer uses its own infotainment software and user interface, the Apple CarPlay interface is the same across all vehicles.
