Best second-hand car for R100 000

One of the realities that consumers must face in 2021 is the fact that R100 000 is not a large budget with which to purchase a vehicle anymore. Today we look at what are some of the best pre-owned options within the local market at this price point.

Best second-hand car for R100 000

At the time of writing, there were thousands of vehicles that could be had between the R50 000 and R100 000 price bracket on AutoTrader, however, in the spirit of providing solid consumer advice, we have narrowed down what we feel are the five best pre-owned buys for the R100 000 mark.

The prerequisites in place are that the products are no older than five years and have less than 100 000km as we want to ensure that we are recommending vehicles that either still has some warranty intact or it has recently expired, ensuring that the vehicle is not riddled with potential issues. There are several vehicles that we have excluded for different reasons, such as the pre-facelift Datsun Go and Renault Kwid models which are considered unsafe, or the discontinued Tata Bolt and Chevrolet Spark. Let's have a look at the five we have chosen, in alphabetical order.

1. Ford Figo

The previous-generation Ford Figo might be an old design, based on the fifth-generation Fiesta, but those underpinnings serve the cars well to this day, endowing the Figo with fun-to-drive dynamics, good ergonomics, and in when referring to the 1.4-litre petrol models available in those price range, both efficiency and reliability. 2. Kia Picanto

The Picanto will likely feature on nearly every list that has to do with small hatchbacks since it is just such a solid offering within the segment. At this price point, you'll be looking at the 1.0-litre models, which have fewer safety goodies than we'd like, but the basic structure is safe, while the rest of the package is absolutely spot on for a budget vehicle. Check out the examples found on AutoTrader.

3.Nissan Micra Active

Nissan's answer to the likes of the Volkswagen Polo Vivo has been the little Micra Active, an often overlooked vehicle that offers great value for money in addition to a lot of features. There are not too many examples available at this price point, but with some patience, you will be able to track one down on AutoTrader.Check out the examples found on AutoTrader.

4. Toyota Etios

While the Etios has been replaced with the Starlet, the former can now be had a relative bargain, while still offering a peppy 1.5-litre petrol engine that is quite efficient, while the rest of the package is proven to be safe and fuss-free, which is what we are aiming for at this price point. Check out the examples found on AutoTrader.

5. Volkswagen Polo Vivo

The previous generation  Polo Vivo was South Africa's former best-selling passenger vehicle, only losing its spot to its successor. The first generation of the Vivo was the result of Volkswagen turning the fourth-generation Polo into a more affordable budget car while simultaneously launching the fifth-generation Polo. Since these are such a common sight on local roads, they make for an easy recommendation at this price point, with spares being easy to come by and a general; reputation for solid reliability and quality. Check out the examples found on AutoTrader.
