9 extras you should fit on a new Mitsubishi Pajero

The Mitsubishi Pajero is a capable off-road vehicle and subsequently a popular choice for customers in the 4X4 SUV segment. Pajero long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase

The Pajero long-wheelbase derivative measures in at 4 900 mm and offers five doors to the seven occupants it is able of transporting. Although the Pajero Sport is also capable of accommodating seven passengers, the Pajero long-wheelbase provide for more room being 115 mm longer and 60 mm wider. 

The Pajero short-wheelbase is the smallest Pajero offering from Mitsubishi. This variant offers five seats and three doors but retains its 4X4 credentials. Fitted beneath the bonnet is the same 3.2-litre, turbocharged, four-cylinder motor as found in the long-wheelbase variant and is capable of producing 140 kW and 441 N.m of torque.

1. Auto Navi Car Play

The Auto Navi Car Play is an optional extra infotainment system available on the Pajero Sport. The system allows you to connect your smart device through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto which allows you to access navigational apps as well as entertainment options. The system will set you back R14 375.00 on top of the vehicle purchase price but will ultimately add to the operating experience and the value and desirability of your vehicle when you decide to trade it in at a later stage.

2. Nudge bar

A sturdy nudge bar will protect the front of your vehicle and operational components behind the vehicle's grille such as the radiator, against small impacts. Offered in stainless steel (R6 313.50) and black (R5 899.50), a nudge bar will not only protect your vehicle but also add to the tough look.

3. Roof rack kit

A roof rack kit always comes in handy for storing extra goods during a trip. Whether you are loading the family's suitcases for your holiday or spare tyres for your over-landing expedition, the roof rack kit will come in handy when you run out of space on the interior or you want to transport goods that could potentially damage the boot lining. The roof rack kit will cost you R10 948.00 on top of the vehicle's purchase price.

4. Drawer kit

When navigating urban roads, it is difficult to keep luggage items separated, more so when conquering rugged terrain. Mitsubishi offers a solution in the form of a drawer kit that can be fitted in the boot of the vehicle. The kit incorporates two large drawers in which items can be separated, wet and dry items for example. This solution will add R12 338.00 to the total price.

5. Extended tow bar (ball neck)

The next item is highly underrated and is an extended tow bar. As you might have noticed not the Pajero models, on the tailgate features the spare wheel inside a housing, this could cause issues when you want to tow a camping trailer or caravan. This item extends the ball neck fitting past the spare wheel and allows for easier access. It should be noted that this extender might decrease the towage capacity and should be taken into account before latching heave items. The tow bar extender is priced at R1 054.90.

6. Roof box

If you have a roof rack installed, it will allow you to stow items safely on the roof of the vehicle, freeing up valuable space on the interior. But what happens if it rains? If you want to benefit from the additional storage space but keep the items safe from the environment and weather, you should consider getting a roof box. This mounts on top of the vehicle via the roof rack and keeps items dry and safe during transport. The roof box which is priced at R10 499.00 is aerodynamically designed to efficiently cut through the air.

7. Engine and gearbox protection plate.

Because the short-wheelbase variant offers the same power as the larger model, it is very capable both on and off-road. To protect the bottom of your engine and gearbox while conquering rough terrain, Mitsubishi makes available an engine and gearbox protection plate. The plate is made from strong steel and will absorb most impacts without it being relay to important components. While the R5 426.50 option will protect the motor and gearbox from most impacts, it is only so strong and customers should always try to avoid objects that might damage the underside of the vehicle.

8. Bike rack

For those customers with active lifestyles, the addition of an OEM bike rack might just be what they have been looking for. Offered in the three styles; one will accommodate two bicycles (R1 399.00), the next three (R2 599.00) while the largest on offer will carry four (R3 399.00). All three options will require that your Pajero comes fitted with a tow bar for it to be fitted to.

9. Bonnet protector

Although considered a small and not so exciting addition to your new vehicle, a bonnet protector will keep the front of your bonnet safe from rocks and other substances that could potentially damage the paint. Priced at R639.90, it is an affordable item that could save you thousands down the line by not having to respray your bonnet. 

 

Verdict

Most of the listed items are available on all three models and customers should explore the range of optional extras available to them before purchasing the vehicle. While aftermarket accessories are appealing to an off-road enthusiast, owners should always consult their ownership manual on whether the vehicle and component warranties will allow these items.
