1. When is the best time to buy a used car?
Gavin: “I don't think there's a specific time of year to buy a used car. I think the best time of the month for a customer to buy a pre-owned car would be right at the end of the month when dealers want to put the units on the board. ”
2. How many kilometres is too high for a used car?
“Well, we've got a cut-off of 120,000 kilometres, over that it becomes more of a risk with regards to after sales or a vehicle picks up a gearbox problem, and it's out of warranty etc...
With Japanese makes, we would go to 140,000 kilometres as I think they tend to be a little bit more reliable.
3. Is mileage more important than age, or is age more important than mileage when purchasing a used car?
“I would recommend a car with lower mileage, the vehicle doesn't have the same amount of wear and tear on it. I would recommend low mileage, because obviously if it’s been looked after, the mileage would sell the car, not necessarily the year model. ”
4. Is it true that it’s cheaper to buy a car with cash?
“We prefer people to finance because finance is more beneficial to us as a dealer. The transaction might be slightly easier if there's no financing involved, but we wouldn’t specifically give a discount for cash or finance, they're not going to get a special discount just because it's a cash transaction.”
5. What are your final tips for anyone looking to buy a used car in Somerset West?
“Google! Do some homework on the internet with regards to the business that you are going to be entering into a transaction with. Read the reviews of the dealership, see if they have a high Google rating and other customers have left a sense that you can trust this dealership. The advice that I give to somebody young, or someone who hasn't bought a vehicle before, I'd recommend that they buy something that's not going to cost an arm and a leg to maintain, buy something easy to maintain and run. ”
