1. When is the best time to buy a used car?
“I would say when you can afford it would be the best time; just whenever the time is right time for you", said Johan.
2. How many kilometres is too high for a used car?
“That is relevant to different derivatives but to give a general answer, I wouldn't buy an Audi over 100,000km but I would buy a Corolla that has 100,000km. So yes, it would depend on the derivative but work out how much you're going to be doing yearly with the car and how long you're keeping the car for and work backwards from that. ”
3. Is mileage more important than age, or is age more important than mileage when purchasing a used car?
“Not so much the age, it is more about the mileage and condition of the car. I'd rather have a car with 50,000km on it than 150,000km so the quality is important, especially when there haven't really been any bad cars, (maybe one or two) since the past 10 years or so.”
4. Is it true that it’s cheaper to buy a car with cash?
“In theory, yes, but in practice, it is very difficult. We often keep them at the same price, the best price is the advertised price we can't decrease it further. However, up to R250,000 the price won't change much for cash but when it gets to between R500,000 - R800,000 there might be a little bit of a margin and more negotiation but only really for the top end vehicles.”
5. What are your final tips for anyone looking to buy a used car in Kuilsriver?
“First off the top of my head, give that road rally condition report to someone who knows about vehicles. Does the dealership give it to you or do you have to look for it yourself? We give you the road rally and make it part of the record of advice as well as the condition report. We confirm that the service history was at the agent or broken but not everybody does that, so I would say look for all of these things and give it to a trusted person who knows their stuff. ”
