“I think when new car prices are quite high, you see the difference and can justify the difference in price, especially with some year or two-year-old car models. If the prices are justifiable, then yeah, the person should buy. So now is the best time to buy a used car,” says Jaco.

"Most of the manufacturers have a warranty until about a hundred thousand. In general, in Cape Town and with my experience of BMW Products, anything over 80,000 would be starting to twist your arm."

“I would say the mileage on the car is more important than its age. It's in a car's favour to have low kilometers; keep an eye on the cars that have low kilometers, that's my opinion.” 

4. Is it true that it’s cheaper to buy a car with cash? 

“Yes. The thing is that the client always expects to get a better deal if they pay cash. It's a psychological thing asking a customer if they want to pay with cash - they want to get something off the price when they pay with cash, they think that cash is king, but we prefer financing, of course.”

 

5. What are your final tips for anyone looking to buy a used car? 

“Repeat business. If you have had good customer service from a dealership go back to see them and see what they have available, as you both then trust in that dealership. From a dealership point of view, it's easy to do a deal when it's a repeat customer base. From a dealer to a customer my tip would be buy from a reputable dealer.
