The Toyota 86 and its twin, the Subaru BRZ, are excellent choices for South African driving enthusiasts. Their reliability is legendary and spare parts are readily available, and the cars are relatively simple to maintain, keeping costs down. Search here for Toyota 86 models.

2. Mazda MX-5

3. Ford Fiesta ST

Enthusiasts may have driven this car quite hard, as with any sports car, so ensure you give it a thorough inspection or let someone else check it out properly. 4. Volkswagen Golf GTI/Golf R

Ensure you have access to a reputable VW specialist for servicing and have the car checked out thoroughly by an expert before you buy.
