5 extras you should specify on a new BMW X1
We look at 5 optional extras that should be selected when ordering BMW's smallest SUV, the X1. These options vary from styling enhancements to convenience and even in-car technologies, but we feel that these are all must-have items in a premium compact SUV.
The X1 is currently in its second generation, or in BMW terms, it is the F48 variant that was first introduced in 2015. The model is based on BMW's UKL2 platform which it shares with the likes of the new 1 Series, the X2, Mini's Clubman and the recently-introduced 2 Series Gran Coupe to name a few.
The X1 range features three different engines, one of which is available in two states of tune, meaning that four engines options are available. The base model motor in the 18i models is the brand's 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 103 kW and 220 N.m of torque. The second petrol engine found in 20i models is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo which produces 141 kW and 280 N.m. The two diesel engines available both displace 2.0-litres although in 18d there's 110 kW and 330 N.m while the 20d has 140 kW and 400 N.m with xDrive all-wheel drive also available with the latter.

With rivals as competent as Volvo's XC40, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA, Mazda's CX-30 and the Audi Q2, the X1 has its work cut out for it. An updated version of the X1 was released in 2019 with the latest BMW technology available, meaning that a well-specified X1 is rather desirable proposition within this segment. 1. Comfort Package: R3 700
The Comfort Package adds some premium convenience features such as the Extended Light Package which includes a puddle lights as well as configurable interior ambient lighting, rear reading lights as well as lights located within the vanity mirror housings.
