The new BMW M4 is not only one of the most anticipated models from the German camp but also one of the most controversial. The controversy takes place at the front of the new M3 and M4 vehicles which now features the large kidney grille configuration. But BMW offers optional extras to enhance the exterior styling. Here are 5 extras you should fit on a new BMW M4.
BMW enthusiast the world over were waiting in anticipation of the new M3 and M4 models but as soon as the new vehicles were unveiled, all the attention was on the front grille design. While the new design follows the signature kidney layout, many have criticized it for either being too big or not in the desired shape. However, the frameless grille was developed for optimal aerodynamics and thermodynamics.

Behind the grille of the M4 Competition model which is destined for the local market is a 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, inline 6-cylinder petrol engine producing 375 kW and 650 Nm of torque. The motor is coupled to an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission which sends the power to the rear axle. The combination results in a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h or 290 km/h if you specify that BMW removes the limiter.
1. Front bumper
While the standard M4 Competition model offers gloss black trim details on the front bumper, customers can optionally specify carbon fibre trim. In place of the two honeycomb air dams flanking the kidney grille, customers can option carbon units which takes shape as two aggressive intake vents on each side. To bolster this theme, the front bumper can be further garnished with a carbon fibre front splitter as well as air directing fins on the outer edges.
2. Side skirts and rear diffuser
To match the aggressive looks of the optional carbon fibre items on the front of the vehicle, customers can extend the carbon finishes to the sides and rear. In place of gloss black side skirting with a soft rounded design, more sporty carbon units can be fitted which even incorporate fins at the rear to efficiently direct airflow towards the rear of the M4 and increase lateral stability.
A racing-style diffuser can also be specified which not only sees the unit constructed out of carbon fibre but also a new design. The design displaces the four exhaust tips from the sides to a central configuration. The M Performance Titanium exhaust system will be a good match for this item.
3. Bootlid wing
As standard, the M4 comes fitted with a small boot-lip wing which adds to the sporty design theme and adds to the rear downforce. However, for the serious racing enthusiast, an even more advanced wing is optionally available. The wing is centrally mounted to the boot lid of the M4 and won't only bolster the rear downforce but also the overall racing theme of the performance model.
4. Wheels
The standard specification wheels on the new BMW M4 takes shape as the M Performance Y-spoke forged wheel 963M in Frozen Gunmetal Grey. While the entry-level specification is plenty stylish, the optional BMW M Performance cross-spoke forged wheel 1000M in Gold Bronze matte or Jet-Black matte with M Performance lettering matches the car even better. The optional wheels are fitted to the car in a 20-inch at the front and 21-inch at the rear configuration.
5. Steering wheel
Although there are plenty of optional items to specify on the interior of your new BMW M4 one of the highlights surely is the M Performance Pro steering wheel. The unit is motorsport-inspired and features a blue centre marker on the Alcantara and leather wrap. The steering wheel is hand-stitched with BMW M colours.
