4 extras you should fit on a new Volkswagen California
As one of the world’s most popular camper vans, the recently updated Volkswagen California 6.1 is the perfect family adventure machine. We went through the Volkswagen South Africa online configurator and found 4 accessories worth fitting on a new California.
Refreshed towards the end of 2020, the Volkswagen T-Series range of commercial vehicles provides several body styles, from single and double cab pick-up variants to a panel van as well as the more familiar Kombi, Caravelle and flagship California.
The latter is what we are concerned with today. In addition to various semi-autonomous driving features, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a potent 146kW turbodiesel engine, the real party piece of this vehicle is its pop-up roof, transforming the rear quarters of the vehicle into a small home, complete with a bed and a kitchen.
While camper vans are not a familiar sight on local roads, products such as the Volkswagen California offer families and those looking for a product to suit their adventure needs with a complete solution. The product is very well specified as standard, however, we have found 4 accessories worth fitting to your new California.
1.Special colours-R33 300
The California pays homage to iconic models such as the Splitty and the Bay Window, specifying a two-tone body colour is almost a necessity. There are many options, all of which cost an additional R33 300, however, we are smitten with the Candy White and Bay Leaf Green Metallic combination.
2.Cupboards finished in Bright Oak and shower connection- R10 500
Since the California is part vehicle and part mobile home, there are niceties such as cupboards and a small kitchen. Adding the Bright Oak finish to the cupboards adds a homey feel to the interior while adding a handy shower connection, adding to the practicality of the vehicle.
3.17-inch alloy wheels in Aracaju style- R5 000
There are only two alloy wheel options within the range, however, we find the Aracaju option appealing. Since the California models sold locally are called the ‘Coast’ specification, the Aracaju wheels are relevant as they are named after a city in Brazil famous for its beaches.
4.Wood covering for floorboards- R11 000
Much like the cupboards, having the floorboards feature a wood-like appearance contributes to the interior of the vehicle resembling more the interior of a home than a vehicle.
