In the market for a Honda Civic sedan? If you're one of those sensible buyers who takes depreciation value into consideration, you're probably wondering which Civic sedan to spend your money on. Let's take a look which model in the line-up will hang on to its value best.

Currently, there are 5 Civic sedans on sale in SA:

• The Honda Civic Sedan 1.8 Comfort, R343 300
• The Honda Civic Sedan 1.8 Elegance, R384 800
• The Honda Civic Sedan 1.5T Sport, R447 100
• The Honda Civic Sedan 1.5T Executive, R478 200.

According to Honda, the most sought-after model (and therefore least likely to depreciate) is the Honda Civic Sedan 1.8 Elegance, R384 800. It offers the most extensive amount of standard equipment for its price, and is one of the more affordable models in the range.

Honda says that even though the engine is naturally aspirated instead of turbocharged, this model is the best-seller, offering the best value for money all-round. The automaker says that the type of person who buys this car values luxury and spec more than they do engine performance (this 1.8-litre engine has power figures of 104 kW and 174 Nm of torque, vs. the 1.5-litre model's 127kW and 220Nm).

Comfort features on the 1.8 Elegance variant include multifunction steering wheel controls, a touchscreen system with bluetooth, cruise control, auxiliary port, USB port, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, heated exterior (and retractable) side mirrors, leather seats, headlamp levelling, front fog lamps, and rear park distance control. Hill start assist is standard. 

All Civics get safety features such as traction and stability control (to complement the ABS, EBD and BA) as well as 6 airbags.

If I were to pick a Honda from this list with my heart, it would be the Civic Sedan 1.5T Sport, because of that lovely 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and imposing, blacked-out grille !
