We have SA prices and specs on Mercedes-AMG GT
Surely one of thé most highly anticipated car debuts this year is the new Mercedes-AMG GT, aka AMG GT.
Quick lineage of the top Mercedes: the McLaren-Mercedes SLR was replaced by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, with Mercedes-AMG GT which now continues this top-of-the-line Mercedes supercar heritage.
The engine is the new Mercedes-AMG 4.0 V8 turbo, offered in 2 flavours: GT and hotter GT S. The GT model power is 340kW at 6000 r/min and 600Nm of torque between 1600 and 5000 r/min (wide torque band thanks to turbocharging) whereas the GT S is up to 375kW at 6250 r/min and 650Nm at 1750-4750 r/min.
What you really want to know is performance, right? The Mercedes-AMG GT manages 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds flat, while the GT S sprints in 3.8 sec – both drive through the rear wheels via the AMG Speedshift MCT automated manual-clutch transmission. Top speeds? The GT already cracks the 300km/h barrier with its 304km/h, while the GT S reaches 310km/h. Proper supercar fast.
The GT S model will also be offered in an Edition 1 (limited launch edition) at R 211 000, which is a choice of carbon-fibre roof or panoramic sunroof, 10-spoke AMG alloy wheels in black, AMG Night package, leather/Dinamica micro-fibre cloth upholstery with red stitching, AMG Performance seats, seat belts in red, AMG interior "Black Diamond" package, AMG Performance steering wheel in microfiber, and AMG Aerodynamic package.
When Mercedes said they’ll replace the SLS AMG with a smaller nimbler car to take on the likes of Aston Martin Vantage and Porsche 911, we believed them, but when they said it would be cheaper, well…

To put this in perspective, the SLS AMG coupé (with its gullwing doors) last market price was R 2.7 million, and the SLS AMG roadster just under R 2.8 million.

The Mercedes-AMG GT (or then AMG GT in short) is sure to be another Mercedes masterpiece, and a surefire future classic.
