VW up! is here, and we have surprise prices

A new baby VW is arriving in South Africa this week.  It’s name is the Volkswagen up! … complete with lower case and exclamation mark, which clearly communicates it as a funky city car for the trend-savvy young-at-heart.

Prices of the Volkswagen up! models are:
- Volkswagen Take up! 1.0 3-door at R 133 500
- Volkswagen Move up! 1.0 3-door at R 140 500

These are surprise prices, as many guessed it would be closer to the R 200 000 mark – this means the up! is excellent value, being a modern compact city car, at the same prices as older lower-quality compact cars like Ford Figo or Toyota Etios… and is indeed cheaper than Volkswagen Vivo.

VWSA will only bring in the 3-door body of the up! which will ensure its Vivo 5-door range top-seller remains unaffected.  Also, the up! has such a youthful persona that the 3-door actually fits it better.
