Volvo 40 series concepts

To announce its new global small car strategy, Volvo Cars showed 2 new concept cars, which is essential for the company’s growth into the growing premium compact car segment.

These 40 series concepts build forward on the current V40 (40 series) size, and clearly leading along the design introduced by the Volvo XC90.  As with each member of a human family, Volvo says each of its cars has its own identity.  The Volvo S60 Cross Country as a high-ride sedan (not available in South Africa) was clearly the inspiration for the raised 4-door concept, while the SUV-like concept is probably a preview of what the upcoming (confirmed) Volvo XC40 could look like.

Just like it has a T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid for its XC90 SUV, Volvo is working on a new T5 Twin Engine, which would use a 3-cylinder petrol engine combined a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission plus electric drive to make a powerful yet efficient hybrid, and this new engine should see arrival in this pair of 40 series cars.
