Volkswagen squares up the new Tiguan

At the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2015) the VW group showed the new Tiguan, as successor to the company’s first compact cross-over.

Crosser cross-over

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a lot more square and chiseled, in line with the new neat-lines seen in the new VW family face – see the grille-into-headlight treatment, where the horizontal grille lines spill into the headlights?  This is similar to what we are seeing in other new Volkswagens like the new Passat and T6 Kombi (both due in SA).

New Tiguan looks much more aggressive, especially in R-line sport pack trim, and moves the design forward for a much crosser looking cross-over.  The company stylists say the design is perceptibly sporty, and shows charisma from all angles.

Better engines and more space

The European engine line-up is said to range from 85kW to 176kW, made both more powerful and more efficient.  Again, front-wheel drive and 4Motion 4-wheel will be offered.

Lots of safety standard

Lots of safety items are standard on new Tiguan, including Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

Tiguan GTE concept

The Tiguan GTE concept is a development to showcase the combination of plug-in electric hybrid with a sports theme, as alluded to by the use of the revered VW GT lettering plus E for electric to form GTE, as already seen on Golf GTE.
