Cross Coupé concept

Research – regardless of the area of research – always aims to identify solutions that point the way to the future. In December 2011 at the Tokyo Motorshow, it was the Cross Coupé – a concept vehicle from Volkswagen – which with a fuel consumption value of just 2.7 l/100 km (equivalent to 62 g/km CO2) illustrated a technical approach to implementing an SUV that can be extremely fuel-efficient despite its high performance and all-wheel drive system. This plug-in hybrid concept was driven by two electric motors and a turbocharged petrol direct-injection engine (TSI).

Now, Volkswagen has conceptualised an even more fuel-efficient Cross Coupé. It is powered by an alliance of a turbodiesel direct-injection engine (TDI) and two electric motors. Its combined fuel consumption in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) is a sensationally low of 1.8 l/100 km. This is equivalent to CO2 emissions of just 46 g/km. Noteworthy here is the fact that the Cross Coupé is a powerful SUV with a top speed of 220 km/h, 225 kW of power (system power) and a kerb weight of 1 858 kg.

e-up!

Volkswagen has electrified its model range with the introduction of the brand's first production electric vehicle, e-up!. The e-up! premiered in September 2013 at the IAA Frankfurt Motorshow. Creating a double impact on the e-mobility stage, the four-door city car will soon be followed by another zero-emission Volkswagen, the e-Golf that was also unveiled at the IAA Frankfurt Motorshow. Both of these electric cars herald the era of full-production e-mobility for Volkswagen.

Scirocco GTS
Volkswagen presents a sporty special edition model of the Scirocco, the new GTS. Nearly thirty years ago, the original forefather of the GTS based on the Scirocco Mk2 rolled off the production line.

Distinctive features of the GTS then as they are now include individualised exterior and interior in a sporty style. A reminder of the original model is the golf ball gear lever which originally made its debut in the MK1 Golf GTI, but between 1982 and 1984 it also adorned the Scirocco GTS.

With the launch of the latest model, Volkswagen is creating a link between the two eras of what was probably the most famous Volkswagen accessory of the 70s and 80s. The Scirocco GTS coupé will only be available with the 2.0 TSI 155 kW engine mated to 6-speed DSG transmission.

New Golf BlueMotion

With the arrival of the new Golf TDI BlueMotion, Volkswagen is launching one of the most fuel-efficient cars of our time.

This Golf is powered by a new direct-injection turbodiesel (TDI) with 81 kW. The 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine has a claimed fuel consumption of only 3.2 l/100 km; this value represents a 15 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the fuel-efficient previous model. The CO2 emissions of the new Golf TDI BlueMotion stand at 85 g/km, which makes it one of the best CO2 values worldwide for cars with combustion engines.

Despite all the efficiency: the Golf TDI BlueMotion, which has a top speed of 200 km/h, is a true five-car that offers safe, comfortable and agile drive to its passengers. Refuelling becomes a minor matter: given its 50-litre fuel tank and 3.2 l/100 km fuel consumption, the Golf BlueMotion has a theoretical driving range of over 1 000 kilometres.

Jetta Hybrid
Volkswagen presents one of the most efficient sedans in the world at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show, the Jetta Hybrid. The Jetty Hybrid is powered by a high-tech petrol engine (TSI with 110 kW) and a zero-emissions electric motor (20 kW). Although this combination facilitates outstandingly powerful driving performances (0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds), the new Jetta Hybrid takes centre stage with a combined fuel consumption of 4.1 l/100 km (or 95 g/km CO2). This means that the sporty sedan consumes about 20% less fuel than a comparably powered car with a conventional drive system. During city driving, the fuel saving improves by almost 30%. Moreover, at the press of a button, the new Jetta Hybrid can be driven in pure electric mode, and therefore with zero emissions, at speeds of up to 70 km/h and over a distance of two kilometres (depending on terrain and operating conditions).

iBeetle
Volkswagen presents a special edition iBeetle, which is based on a full integration of the iPhone and the Beetle. In the iBeetle, the iPhone is fully capable of communicating with the vehicle and exchange data back and forth. The iBeetle uses a specially developed docking station and a unique app called “Volkswagen Car-Net The Beetle”. This makes the Beetle the first model in the Volkswagen Group in which the iPhone will become an integrated component.

Amarok Wörthersee concept

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting its showstopper at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motorshow, AmarokWörthersee concept. The concept was first shown in May 2013 at the GTI Festival in Wörthersee, Austria.

At about 5.25 meters long, 2.22 m wide and powered by a 3.0 liter 200kW V6 TDI engine, the concept Amarok Single Cab looks menacing and muscular.

The XL loadbox in combination with almost 6 cm wheel arch extensions and 80 mm lowering not only add visual powerhouse but makes it stand out. The V6 TDI engine has enormous torque of 600 Nm which is distributed via 8-speed automatic transmission to the four permanently driven wheels. The 0-100km/h sprint is achieved in 7.9 seconds which is not bad for a car with a cargo area of more than 3.5 m2. The cargo area has loads of space to fit a racing kart with its workshop equipment or in real life the cargo area can easily fit two Euro pallets.
